YouTube Will Launch a New Format for Teens

A new YouTube format will feature content appropriate for teens and tweens. It will allegedly launch this spring and enable watchful parents to control their children’s online behavior.

It seems YouTube has come up with a way to shield teenagers from sensitive content. The new app format will do the same trick as “YouTube for Kids”. Only it will feature a bit more mature content than Kids Camp, Baby Shark or Masha & the Bear.

Explore feature will allow the young viewers to discover new types of content: vlogs, tutorials, gaming videos, etc. But all of them will be filtered by AI, as well as YouTube moderators and the user community. (The latter includes parents first of all).

Teens will be also limited in such options as video-making or leaving comments. Moreover, parents will be able to manage accounts of their young ones. It implies access to the search history and setting extra safety filters if necessary.

In-app purchases will be also disabled: recently there were more cases of kids spending thousands of their parents’ money on IAPs. So, the new YouTube incarnation will provide  the helicopter parents with even more leeway for hovering.
