What Happens If You Don’t Accept the New WhatsApp Privacy Policy

You might have been troubled by the fact that WhatsApp declared its intention to share the content to Facebook. After all those Cambridge Analytica scandals and stuff, one must take such news a bit cautiously. No wonder many users show concern about their privacy. Will Facebook read what we write to each other? And shall we accept the new privacy policy that openly allows that?

It’s not about your private messages, WhatsApp spokespersons had to articulate. All the chats between users are end-to-end encrypted, and they will remain so. Facebook will really get access to some chats, but they only include chats with business accounts. Facebook, WhatsApp’s parent company, may use this massive data to improve its advertising practice. For sure, hardly will anyone human read your messages: they will be machine-processed to sift the keywords and choose the most appropriate ads for you.

The new privacy policy will be implemented on May 15th; after that, those who don’t accept the new terms will not be able to receive, send, or even read messages. Thus, of all the features, they will only enjoy calls and notifications… for some time.

As you know, WhatsApp has always been quick to cut off users from shrinking or obsolete platforms. To continue using the service, they would have to change their habits: ditch their favorite iPhone 4 for something newer and bigger, give up Windows Phone… or let Facebook read their requests and complaints to businesses.
