Top Features iPhone Should Borrow from Android

While Apple seems to be investing a lot of research and effort in bringing the two mobile operating systems closer together, there are still many Android features that iOS 14 clearly lacks. Here’s a list of what remains to be done.

Advanced Notification Management

One functionality in which Apple has fallen dramatically behind Android is how notifications are managed and presented. Android phones offer you more structure. They also use artificial intelligence to generate notification-related recommendations. Generally, you have a greater chance of losing an important message due to poor organization with Apple, which means something has to be done.

Higher Display Refresh Rates

Refresh rate is critical to the gaming experience as well as simpler daily entertainment such as scrolling through your newsfeed in a way that feels oh so smooth. Android is now using high refresh rate displays for its flagship models. With iOS, however, the standard remains 60Hz, so it’s definitely high time that the rumors about ProMotion being implemented in Apple phones came true.

Reduced Display Notches

Display Notch

There’s no denying that the little (or not so little) notch around the selfie camera has become a feature that makes phones stand out or look punishingly outdated. The latter seems to be the case with iOS devices. One obvious solution is to use a fingerprint scanner built into the display for identification purposes.

USB-C Ports

Android users across the world have long enjoyed the benefits of USB-C, but Apple seems to be in no hurry. This is especially annoying given the fact that iPads do come with a USB-C charging port. With its reputation for creating a uniform, minimal ecosystem of devices, Apple should be looking to include the new charging standard in its newest phone.

Forever-On Displays

Android’s AMOLED displays all stay on without the user explicitly waking up the phone to check if a notification has arrived. Unfortunately, iOS mobile devices still lack valuable features. Once again, Apple fans are more likely to miss an important message because it’s harder for them to stay tuned at all times.

The Devil Is in the Detail

It’s safe to say that Apple has got closer to Android. Yet, it’s the little things that sometimes determine user experience, such as the ability not to miss or lose notifications or a better charging port, so let’s hope that iOS will see the minor but much-wanted design improvements really soon.
