TikTok Now Tries to Imitate Instagram and Allows Users to Add Photos

These days, it seems that all the social media app creators are looking at each other and trying to add features that they are lacking from the competitors. The situation is particularly obvious when it comes to YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram adding new video features to be more like TikTok. Such decisions are not at all surprising considering that the popularity of TikTok only continues to increase. This time, TikTok decided to take lessons from Instagram and add a new Photo Mode feature to its arsenal.

The decision is quite an unexpected one because of how much TikTok is a video-focused platform at the moment. The feature will allow users to post one or several photos and add a caption of no more than 2,200 characters. Such posts will become available on the For You page right next to the usual video content in the app. Just like Instagram shows both Reels and photos one after another in the recommendations, TikTok are taking the same approach.

One feature that makes this Photo Mode different from the one on Instagram is that users will have an opportunity to add music. Some users are concerned that this mode will encourage people to repost images and memes in the same way that Instagram does while TikTok should be more about creating unique content.
According to the TikTok blog post, the company thinks that this mode will be beneficial and will help users “express themselves and more deeply connect with others.”

It is obvious that social media apps copy the features of one another. It is definitely interesting that TikTok has decided to learn something from Instagram, as every social media app out there wants to turn into TikTok.

What do you think about the addition of this mode? Do you think it is necessary? Please, share your thoughts in the comments below.
