Netflix plans to launch a game based on the popular show Squid Game. Possibly, it’s a beginning of a new era of mobile games, based on the platform’s popular programs and series.
Squid Game is a popular series from South Korea. It tells a story of a group of adults who have to play the children's games — that are set to a deadly difficulty level — to pay their crippling debt.
As it turns out, the show really touched a weak spot with the Korean and international audiences — South Korea is actually debt-stricken these days.
There have been numerous requests to turn it into an interactive adventure of its own. Here’s what Minyoung Kim of Netflix said on the idea:
“My team’s role is to really look at all of those opportunities together, to create that roadmap for the Squid Game IP. We are looking at multiple different areas — from games, consumer products, and others — to really figure out what we can bring to our audiences to increase their affinity”
It is suspected that Squid Game could be transformed into some sort of grimmer version of Fall Guys. While this famous title is focused on the fun of shoving, jumping, and running, it basically has the same mechanics that players deal with in the Squid Game.
Netflix already has a bit of game-making experience. Back in 2017, they released a rogue-like RPG based on Stranger Things.
In the game’s beautifully crafted pixel world, you were invited to explore Hawkins and its vicinity and assemble the whole crew, including Hopper. The game is free to download to this day and remains quite fun.
With Netflix’s monstrous catalog, we can see some masterpieces come to life on our phones. Would you like Mr. Robot or Black Mirror to be turned into games? Or which other show would you like to be gamified? Let us know in the comment section!
