Pokemon Day Celebration: How to Catch Clone Pokemon

In 2019 Pokemon Go released ''Gen 5 Pokémon'', the Unova Stone introduction and Egg charts. There also were a range of weekly events such as Spotlight Hour and Mystery Bonus evenings, monthly Days of Pokemon Community, and Field Research rewards. There will be new exciting features this year, and Pokemon Clone is one of them.

Clone Pokemon appeared in Pokemon movie “Mewtwo Strikes Back” 22 years ago. At the end of the month, it will be available for Pokemon GO fans for the first time. Do you want to find out what they are and how to get them? Here we will tell you everything we know, so let's prepare for Pokemon Celebration Day 2020.

Clone's History

In “Mewtwo Strikes Back,” Mew clone – Mewtwo, driven by revenge, wanted to take over the whole world. He was created in a secret laboratory to become a weapon of destruction. When the first genetically created Pokemon finds out about his fate, he destroys the laboratory and kills all scientists. He captures all the Pokes from the trainers and creates their copies for his army. Cloned Mew catches other Pokemon in Mewtwo Balls and sends them to the cloning machine.

The majority of clones look the same as their original versions. Only a few of them have horizontal or vertical marks on their bodies. Initially, the clones are stronger than their original counterparts. Whether they will be stronger in Pokemon GO, we will see soon.

Update Is Coming

Pokemon GO is going to introduce clone Pokemon on Pokemon Day celebration. This day marked the original Pokémon Game Boy games released in Japan in 1996. On February 25th at 1 pm PST, this long-expected event starts and lasts until March 2nd.

Pokemon Company, in a team with Niantic, is going to release five types of clones. New characters will be as skilled as their prototypes, but the skins will be different. There was no Pokemon game with clones except Mewtwo before. So, on February the 25, we will have a chance to see them for the first time!

One of five clones is Armoured Mewtwo, which will be available in 5-star raids. For the first time, this character appeared in Pokemon Go in July 2019. Its extraordinary version wears the protective covering because Giovanni told Mewtwo that it helps clones to control the power. This tactic works against Giovanni. Red and Green introductions of Nidorino and Gengar will also be available during raids.

Armored Mewtwo is weak concerning movements like Bug, Dark, and Ghost, similar to the regular version of Mewtwo. Although the armor looks impressive, the list of counters is the same as in a regular M2 battle. The best Mewtwo armored counters are Darkrai, Giratina Origin, Hydreigon, Chandalure, Gengar, Tyranitar, and Mewtwo.

As for the new characters, the players can find clones of Charizard with orange stripes, Blastoise with green stripes on his head, and white-spotted Venusaur in 4-star raids. However, it doesn't work for Pikachu. During the event, Pikachu will photobomb through the in-game camera. Once you take a photo of a Pika bomb, close your camera. The clone will then appear, and at this point, you’ll be able to catch it.

You will be able to catch a Pika clone every 24 hours if Niantic keeps this feature the same as it is with Smeargle. Take as many photos as you can once the event starts. The more pictures you have, the higher the probability to find clones. After the 2nd of March clones won’t be available, and you won’t be able catch them. So, try to capture them all before the end of the event.

Furthermore, during the Pokemon Day Event, we will enjoy the following bonuses:

  • Party Hat Pikachu;
  • Party Hat Eevee in the wild;
  • Party Hat Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charmander from 7 KM Eggs and as T1 Raid Bosses;
  • Partying Pokemon could be Shiny;
  • Two Special Trades per day.

 Trainers will have a chance to do up to two unique trades per day. They also would want to take advantage of the encounter Armored Mewtwo and other clones in Raids. The party hats and other celebration features will make this event worthwhile for trainers.

What’s Next

Niantic didn't neglect to add novelties into the game in the past. For Halloween, they surprised the users with costumes both for avatars and Pokes. About 20 new ghost-type and dark-type Pokes were available. Go Pokemon fans also could capture various shadow Pokes as Shuppet, Electabuzz, Nuzleaf, and so on.

In 2020, PokemonGo is going to continue adding new features. We will see such novelties as Go Battle League. Buddy Adventure feature. We recently got a lot of perks included, for example, Souvenirs finding and feature of trade evolution.

Speaking about Pokemon Clone's story development, in the movie Mewtwo Strikes Back, the clone of Mew created 24 copies of different Pokes. The list includes:

Clone Pokemon also will give way to the new Netflix release of CGI animated version of Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution. More than 20 years later, the franchise continues to be the focus of attention for children and adults around the world. It's not surprising that with 22 anime seasons and 21 films, some of these films made it to Netflix. The story of Mew clone includes Team Rocket, Pika, and Ash. We expect to see an army of clones and epic battles.
