Though GTA 6 is still far from being released or at least officially announced, there are more and more rumors regarding it. The latest one gives us an idea of how high the developers initially aimed. As they say, at first, GTA 6 might feature three cities and four playable protagonists, but then it was downscaled to just one city and two characters.
The source of the leak is Stephen Totilo, a journalist who is in touch with some unnamed persons related to Rockstar Games (not sure whether they are employees, executives, or third-party contractors). As they say, though, the ambitious plans were afterward reviewed, reducing the scale to just one big location. Though no way should it be smaller than Los Santos and its vicinities from GTA V. It’s not clear either whether the locations were planned as completely new or previously featured in older installments.
As for protagonists, now there will be just two playable characters, one of them reportedly female – for the first time in the series' history. Originally, as Totilo says, there were four of them, but then, again, that number was cut down. This does not mean we will lose some storylines: they can be adapted to fit the remaining characters’ arcs.
Still, the fact that the game will not be as big as it was planned doesn’t yet tell a lot. First, it’s all just rumors. Second, the vaulted ideas can later be resurrected for DLC, which everyone will be hungry for after playing through the main quest. Indeed, it’s great that the developers already have a drawer of canceled ideas that are originally related to the story, so they just shake the dust off them instead of forcing up sequels.
Would you like to see GTA 6 big from the beginning, or would you rather see it unfold gradually with DLC packs? Do you believe the game will still be big and ambitious, despite these compromises? Share your expectations and hopes with us in the comments!
