Google promises that there will be tight interoperability between users’ smart home devices. The company keeps its commitments to Matter. Recently they have shared a new glimpse of the program and its possibilities in our smart homes. However, we have to wait till 2022 to see the positive changes.
During the Smart Home Developer Summit, run by Google, the company’s officials provided more information on new tools that work with Google Home, Matter, and other ecosystems compatible with Matter. In short, it means that your conditioner or thermostat can get directly connected to the Apple Home, without Home Assistant.
According to the official plan, Matter arrives in 2022. Google describes it as an open smart home app protocol that combines devices of your smart home with each other. It makes all the gadgets you installed in your house compatible with each other no matter who was their developer.
Google’s Senior Product Manager, Kevin Po said that the company has high hopes for Matter since the project is demanding. They hope to solve multiple problems with this protocol and significantly improve users’ experience. During the event, the company told more about Matter and Thread, the supporting protocol. They revealed the name of the project, which is Google Home.
Google Home is going to connect devices together, extend the automation abilities and voice control. Google Nest and Android devices will be united at one home. The smart home platform shares the same name as the developer program.
Developers announced Google Home Developer System as well. It is a shop that allows users to buy everything they may need for the smart home. There will be tools for better adoption of the system and implementation in the user’s life.
Do you have a smart home system? If so, please, share your impressions on it in the comments. Do you expect a new program from Google?
