Epic Games acquires one more development studio for Fortnite - already overstuffed with content. This time, the gaming giant bought Harmonix, the studio behind the popular Rock Band simulation series. Both companies announced the merger in separate twits. Let’s take a quick look at what they’re preparing for us.
Scale It!
As Harmonix co-founder and chairman Alex Rigopulos said to the press, that the merger with Epic Games will give the studio an opportunity to deliver its interactive music experiences to larger audiences. The company is now planning to co-develop a brand new way for us, players, to create, share, and even perform music.
Harmonix will continue to work on the upcoming Rock Band 4 updates as well as Fuser events, but will also create new content and special “musical journeys” for Fortnite. Fortunately for many players, the Rock Band series won’t leave Steam and become an Epic Games Store exclusive. The developer also promised to keep the game servers working for as long as players will use them.
Vice president of game development at Epic Games Alain Tascan said that music is already a huge part of Fortnite with all its events and online celebrity concerts. However, the collaboration with Harmonix will bring the upcoming experiences to a brand new level. Hopefully, the work of Harmonix for Fortnite won’t kill the studio as Epic Games have already acquired a lot of studios and may not be able to keep them all running forever.
Raking Billions
Epic Games has already earned billions of dollars since 2018 and it wants to keep the metaverse show running for as long as possible. This being said, we should wait for even more acquisitions in the near future. Do you think that Epic’s market behavior is getting monopolistic? Or maybe you have another point of view on that?
